Calm, Minimal, Restrained Color, Generous Whitespace: How to Design for Attention Retention
If you've ever tried to read a book with a headache, you know that the right font and color can make all the difference. If you're trying to sell something on the internet, it turns out that the same rules apply.
When we set out to design Agency by YG3, we knew that our platform was powerful. It's a marketing engine that helps businesses run more efficient campaigns, and it can do some pretty impressive things. But when it comes to web design, "impressive" isn't always the best strategy.
You see, if you want people to pay attention to your website, you have to make sure that they actually want to be there. And if your website is hard to read or looks like a rainbow threw up on it, well, good luck with that.
So we took a different approach. We went for calm, minimal, restrained color, and generous whitespace. We figured that if people could read our website without getting a headache, they'd stick around long enough to see what we had to offer.
And it worked. Our blog runs at blog-agency-by-yg3.yg3.ai, and the agency.yg3.ai marketing site carries the same client pixel, so prospect activity on either surface attributes to one record. In other words, people are coming back for more, and they're staying longer than they would on a website that looks like it was designed by a toddler with a box of crayons.
But don't take our word for it. There's research out there that proves that calm, minimal, restrained color, and generous whitespace actually work. A study by the Nielsen Norman Group found that websites with lots of white space are easier to read and navigate than websites with lots of clutter. Another study by Hubspot found that websites with fewer colors perform better than websites with more colors.
So if you want people to stick around on your website, don't make it look like a rainbow threw up on it. Don't make it so cluttered that people can't find what they're looking for. Go for calm, minimal, restrained color, and generous whitespace. It might not be as flashy as some of the other design trends out there, but it works. And in web design, sometimes "works" is all you need.
And if you want to see what we mean, check out our blog at blog-agency-by-yg3.yg3.ai or our marketing site at agency.yg3.ai. We promise that we won't try to sell you anything. We just want to show you how it's done.
Calm, minimal, restrained color, generous whitespace: It might not be the sexiest design trend out there, but it works. And in web design, sometimes "works" is all you need.
